CODEPINK asks, "Got Habeas Corpus?"

The Center for Constitutional Rights and 75 prominent attorneys and acedemics from across the country traveled to Capitol Hill today to lobby Congress to reverse provisions of the Military Commissions Act of 2006 that deprived the federal courts of jursidiction to hear habeas corpus claims by Guatanamo detainees.

CODEPINK went to the press conference on the terrace of the Cannon House office building to lend our support for the lawyers and judges who have been speaking out regarding the harm to civil liberties caused by the Military Commissions Act. We were wearing messages on our shirts that read, "CLOSE GUATANAMO" and "RESTORE HABEAS CORPUS".

Among those speaking were Congresswomen Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) and Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX).
