We Shouldn't Need a Peace Lobby.

By Hannah Miller

Today is my first day at the Pink House. This week the actionable items appear to be FISA and yet another bill to fund the Iraq war - $160 billion, to extend into 2009, even after the next president takes office.

So our action was to highlight little copies of the Constitution with pink highlighters - the Fourth Amendment ... we'll take them to Capitol Hill later. I'm happy to be here. It's an incredible place. It's very positive, the people are lovely, the spirit of peace is here.

But I don't quite understand why we need a peace lobby. I don't know why we have to go to Capitol Hill and tell them they shouldn't wire tap us or keep on with an illegal war that the American public doesn't want. Peace should be the default. War is now the default. But it should take a great deal of effort and lobbying and begging and pleading and screaming to get us into a war. It should take years of lobbying to get us into a war, and keep us in a war. It should take a major public relations effort, and mass organizing.

But it's the opposite. War is the standard, and the doors are opened for the military and the contractors. Our voices are barely heard.

Here's the text of the Fourth Amendment.

Amendment IV

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Hi, shann, and thanks for visiting our site. It is always good to get the negative stuff out of the way first. That way, we open a path to understanding, and you give our peace cooties a chance to burrow into your soul. With that said, let us begin.

As to why we do what we do, Melvina Reynolds said it better than I ever could:

It Isn't Nice

While you listen to the music, please reflect on what a dark and evil place this country would be if it weren't for some proud, brave, and rather ornery people. We would still have slavery, women would still be chattel, and if I wanted to vote, I'd have to own property. This country owes a big debt to pushy women.

We'd love to have Ann Coulter over for potluck (Wed nite 7:00PM at the Code Pink House - bring a guest and play nice!). The poor woman looks she could use some good wholesome food. She's quite rich, so we hope she brings enough for everybody. As for Marines turning their backs on us, considering the way some of them have misbehaved in Iraq among other places, I would feel quite relieved if they turned their back on me. I don't mean to include Marine guests of Code Pink House. Their attentions are quite welcome, they are quite well behaved, and there have been more of them than you quite realize.

SURGEON GENERALS' WARNING!!!

ANYONE WITH RIB OR SPINAL INJURIES SHOULD AVOID CODE PINK HOUSE, AS THE WOMEN ARE SERIOUS HUGGERS, AND WE DON'T ANYONE GETTING HURT.

Thank you for your time and attention.

what's your proof of this misbehavior in Iraq??? I'd love to see that... I'm pretty sure that everyone that has misbehaved, EVER in the history of the military was taken up the proper chain of command and court marshalled.

and -- I'm almost positive, that there were some pushy men that made leaps and bounds in this country as well as broads... and you know what else is funny... it was war that ended slavery, nazism, and facism... can you believe that??

I refuse to read your bleeding heart liberal shit... as I'm exposed to it every day in the news.

You know why Miss. Coulter is rich? She's smart. Know why your broke ass is living in some house in DC with how many other people?? 'cause you are not smart.

I thank God every day for our military, our country, our gov't -- no matter who the administration, my family, and the ability to listen to people like you. Not because I enjoy the ignorant rhetoric... but, because it means that our soliders, our airmen, our marines, and our sailors have done their job.

Hi shann, and welcome back.

First, we're going to add some Kaylee to your diet, and then we'll continue. Just click on the link, as usual.

There! Wasn't that fun? Onward...

The Nile is a great river that nurtures many people. Denial, though pronounced somewhat differently, also nurtures many people in its own way. Consider them the same, but different.

The proof is out there, if you look for it - The Haditha Massacre, The rape and murder of Abeer Qassim al-Janabi, Abu Ghraib, 1,000,000 dead Iraqis, and almost certainly more, guys using a Koran for target practice, and, to ensure the cycle of grotesquery is complete, The Puppy.

Optimistic and sunny fool that I am, I always thought we treated the Iraqis like beasts. Then we went all harsh on some idiot for animal cruelty, and I realized that we hold beasts in higher regard than we do Iraqis, and shame on us. Mind you, this is just the stuff we've heard about. Google "Winter Soldier" for much, much, more.

You're right about the pushy menfolk (although I didn't give ALL the credit to the women) but I have to take off points from them for the war thing, as war, and the profit from it, also begat and furthered slavery, and nazism, and fascism, and other Bad Stuff. Nazism and Fascism (and Japanese Imperialism, and our current mess in the ME) grew out of the ashes of WWI, because you can't have a War to End All Wars unless you have a Peace to End All Peace (Versailles).

Ms. Coulter is rich because she was born into a well-to-do family. She got richer by writing a book, then writing it again and again, each time with a different title. Since Ann doesn't need your money, I suggest you read her stuff for free at the public library. Do the same for JK Rowling. She doesn't need your money, either (although she's a much better author, IMHO).

And I thank my imaginary friend that your God blesses us all, and that She loves you too much to leave you this way.
