How can you call John McCain a torturer when he was tortured for six and half years in a Vietnam POW camp. Why dont you all stop reading the huffington post and watching cnn and get jobs or do somthing productive like helping starving people in Africa
Why aren't y'all standing outside of the White House and protest Obama's perpetuation of Bush-era policies?
1. No immediate withdrawal from Iraq (basically following the Bush timeline and SOFA, signed under Bush)
2. Troop surge in Afghanistan
3. Predator attacks in Pakistan and possible escalation of conflict
4. Rendition continues
5. Wiretaps continue
6. State secrets
7. Gitmo remains open, with the possibility of military tribunals being reinstated, indefinite detentions.
Why are you protesting outside McCain's office? Hello! Earth to Code Pink: McCain's not the commander-in-chief. And he supports Obama on being opposed to torture. What he didn't like, was subjecting the CIA to the restrictions of the Army Field Manual:
Despite the claims of some partisans, McCain's decision was not a flip-flop, but rather the continuation of a position he took in 2005 when he first championed a bill to restrict the Bush Administration's ability to mistreat detainees.
"The field manual, a public document written for military use, is not always directly translatable to use by intelligence officers," McCain explained in February, reiterating his position from 2005. He added that the CIA should be allowed to use "alternative interrogation techniques," that are not otherwise outlawed as unduly coercive, cruel, inhumane or degrading.
